Product - Weta condominiums
These were designed in mid 2018 by our members, Bryan Peryer and Alan Minson so they could measure weta populations.
The bodies are made from untreated macrocarpa, with a thin sheet of polycarbonate as a window. The "window" allows checking of the population without risking wetas falling out, or being crushed by the closing of the door.
Botanists say there’s an inverse relationship between rate and weta populations so we have made arrangements with the University of Auckland “CatchIT" to conduct population counts in the Condos on a 3 monthly basis.
As at March 2020, 66 Condos have been
distributed.
